Meanwhile, back in West Virginia...
When this bird landed on the feeder, I thought it might be a different variety of nuthatch. But while it is smaller than the others I've photographed, it does have white on the face all around the eye, so it must be a young White-breasted Nuthatch.
Hiking through the forest, I found a windthrown tree that had snapped another tree about 8 feet above the ground, and a third down near the base. Carmi has moved on from his tree theme, but I say it isn't over until we say it is!

Thanks for more nuthatch pictures! They are just the goofiest, cutest birds in the world.
We have yet another day of rain and gray. I'm going to turn into a nuthatch soon if we don't get some sun and warmth. I'd better practice walking backwards down a tree.

M.B., Destructor is more than enough to discourage burglars (not to mention the mailman, friends, family, and such as).
