Lake Siri is one pretty lake, isn't it?
Is it really close to your home?

This is more like my parent's weekend house, Laura.

Lake Siri, itself, is just a creek with an earthen damn. It's probably 6 or 7 feet deep, max. But it reflects the light very nicely.

The lake is about a half mile walk down from the house.

The feeder's back in business, yay! That nice, thick FAT will keep a birdie warm. Sort of like McDonald's french fries for humans.

Where's the hovercraft photo? You know, the one full of eels?

Nice birdies, thundra. We had a big wren year in 2010. They're such cute birds. All of those are cute.

Thank you, and check the update. The remote technology + tripod isn't perfect...the camera shuts down automatically if there's no activity for a couple minutes and the remote can only trigger the shutter, not turn the camera back on.

But I've gotten some better pics of the Red-bellied woodpecker than I have so far.

Camouflage sheet style versus tripod style.

I almost forgot - don't birders do a bird census on NYD?

New year off to a good start, pic wise that is to say. Some good stuff from the last one as well.

What you might think about doing is angling that alien tripedal thingie so that the lens thing of the black box thing is pointing at something, say a birdfeeder box or some such. Then attach a cord with what they call a plunger on the end that runs into the inside of the hizzy where no birdies you there will spy. Then, when one lands to feed, plunge. Or something.

Maybe a motion detector.

Clearly we have too much time on our hands.

Best,
Jim H.

Tri, pod? I don't get it, what will do with all that extra wobble since it won't be used in the daguerreotyping machine anymore?

The red-bellied woodpecker (stupidest name ever, one wonders if it was named by a blind person) is one of my favorites. Haven't seen my local one recently. Gotta put out more fatty stuff. Bought a bag of peanuts yesterday...

I need to buy a bird feeder.
I used to have a couple but then I got frustrated when the (things that zrm hates) would get into them.
I know that you can buy some that are supposed to deter them.
We'll see how I'm fixed for cash... :)
I miss watching them. :(

Laura, I suggest this one

Although I think some of them start to enjoy it.

In any case, he doesn't get any bird seed.

zombie rotten mcdonald said...

I think I might get one, although feeding birds would be a secondary purpose.

Hahaha, zrm.

That doesn't sound good, thunder.

We have this one, which works pretty well. No gratifying squirrel trebuchet however.

Jennifer said...

We have that one, but the squirrels figured out how to remove the lid and crawl inside. Yes, a tube full o'squirrel.

Grizzled has since reinforced the lid with with another lid attached to bungees... now the squirrels just wang the thing around hard enough until the seeds go flying.

If I can't launch a squirrel, the effing birds can just order out.

If I still have Deck Envy after 4 hours, do I have to consult a physician?

Laura said...

I like the one that zrm suggested. Although, I believe I will try fish's. :)
Maybe if I see a squirrel on it, I'll give it a spin. :)

What happened thunder? You flipped a Highlander?? The vehicle or the immortal?

These are great photos of the birds. Those Carolina Wrens are hard to photograph, so skittish. We have some at our house and I feel like a winner when I can get even a halfway decent picture of one.

I was merely a passenger on the ill-fated vehicle, Laura. (See next post.)
