The Beatings Will Continue...
I don't believe the Administration is stupid enough to believe that yelling at their voters is a winning strategy. I can believe that they see losses in 2010 as inevitable, and so are now scapegoating "the Professional Left". This has the added benefit of sucking up to the corporate media, lobbyists, and plutocrats who employ same.
It will set up a toxic post-election season in D.C. All the punditry will shriek with one voice, "The Administration has been too liberal! MUST MOVE RIGHT!"
Meanwhile, the Presidential Catfood Commission will be coming in with their recommendation to cut Social Security, to be given an up-or-down vote by a Congress full of emboldened Republicans and lame-duck Blue Dogs about to go on to their new jobs as lobbyists.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park, part II
Remember this? I finally walked on over to see what they've done with the place.
I didn't get any good butterfly pictures at Scioto Audubon, but Schiller Park was reliable once again.
P.S.

Random detritus - September 24, 2010
The search for an honest Republican yields a result!
To that end, perennial candidate John Raese (R) may need to sharpen his message a bit. Here's the conservative candidate yesterday, appearing on a radio show:
HOST: Tell us a little bit about you and your business experience and how you got here.
RAESE: I made my money the old-fashioned way, I inherited it. I think that's a great thing to do. I hope more people in this country have that opportunity as soon as we abolish inheritance tax in this country, which is a key part of my program.
The vast numbers of West Virginians suffering from the onerous inheritance tax will find relief at last.
Same old Democrats, same old crap:
Colbert asked to leave Judiciary hearing
By Donovan Slack, Globe Staff
At least one lawmaker was not amused.
Comedian Stephen Colbert had barely seated himself at a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing this morning when US Representative John Conyers, Democrat of Michigan, asked him to leave. Conyers said the committee had not seen so many reporters at a hearing since presidential impeachment proceedings in the late 1990s, and he wanted Colbert to leave so that the committee could carry on with its work.
Colbert, however, did not budge, saying that he was present at the invitation of the hearing chair, US Representative Zoe Lofgren, Democrat of California. But Colbert said if Lofgren wanted him to leave, he would.
Lofgren said she wanted him to stay, and a good portion of Capitol Hill was glued to broadcasts of the hearing.
Sit down and shut up, Conyers. (Video here.)
UPDATE: This is why Stewart and Colbert are our chief weapons...

LMAO at Gretchen Carlson
Carlson finds it "frightening" that "a lot of people consider" Jon Stewart "to be real news".
Bonus Wretchen'! Carlson declares it a "ridiculous...waste" of "taxpayer dollars" for Colbert to testify before House on immigration.

Jupiter stops by, says Hi
Tuesday was the night that Jupiter reached its closest distance to Earth in more than a decade. The moon was a little too bright for my camera, but Jupiter is there to the left.

Mary Jo Kilroy - Rewarding Good Behavior
Mary Jo Kilroy is my House Representative. I donated and voted for her in 2006 (she lost) and 2008 (she won by 2,311 votes over Steve Stivers).
I didn't realize that Mary Jo Kilroy would be this strong on issues I care about when I voted for her the first two times. I was expecting more of a typical Democratic congresscritter. So it's time to reward good behavior.
~
Mary Jo is a strong supporter of the public option and has been one of the most vocal members on protecting Social Security. She was an original co-signer on the Grijalva letter to stop the cat food commission from enacting any cuts to Social Security benefits.

Up and down the Olentangy River
The flowers below grow on vines located in a dry stream bed that feeds into the Olentangy. Smut Clyde (IF that is his real name) suggested that these are shrimp wearing Mickey Mouse ears. I have my doubts.

O'Donnell Beats Off Castle
Sen. Cornyn hedges on backing O'Donnell after Delaware primary
What Digby said.
P.S. I saw this quiz at Southern Beale's place.
You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore.
Take the quiz at www.FightConservatives.com

How about a funny dog picture?
I've been meaning to take pictures over at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, but work has been interfering with my plans. I think Pere Ubu linked to this in a Sadly, No! thread. (And if it was someone else, you can have your lawyer contact my lawyer.)
P.S. Go see Pinko's butterfly pictures.

P.S. I heard it through the Joke Line.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park
This is the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. The ponds were created by digging holes and filling them with dirt. This dirt would then be dug up and carted away, to be replaced by fresh dirt. I understand that this is what is known as "environmental remediation".
I've noticed that the adjacent Columbus Police Impound Lot (no reviews yet???) is being torn down.
Apparently this will also be a park. I've been meaning to get over to the Audubon Park for some pictures. Stay tuned!

Umbrella Girl on Labor Day
It's been a while since I made it over to Schiller Park. I think this is the first time I've seen Umbrella Girl with her umbrella in action. A plethora of butterflies were about, and even a hummingbird. (Said hummingbird refused to sit for his portrait, however.) There's a couple of butterflies left to identify, I'll get to those this evening.
