Carmi's Thematic 209 is From behind.
Here is a large Northern water snake, Nerodia sipedon, sunning itself on a rock in Lake Siri.
My left foot on the same rock...for scale.
Here's a Flying Cheeto controlling some prime Lake Siri real estate.
Would you believe three Appalachian Tiger Swallowtails mudding together?
Lake Siri (plus orbs), with Cacapon Mountain and the last night's moon behind it.

aaah, cool moon shot!
love the snake head...good to be behind that one, eh!
Thanks, Laura. Some people were suggesting it's a water moccasin, but I'm pretty certain Northern water snake is the diagnosis.
Sure is, mikey. I've got some more pics of Mr. (or Mrs.) Three Foot Goldfish, too, but I'm saving those for later.

Holy crap. I don't usually mind snakes, but that one actually made me push away from the screen.
That's a pretty snake. Glad you saw it from behind ;-)
I don't usually mind snakes
Memo to self: Another way to help Jennifer!
Was the snake
by the lake,
asleep.
So that, up on it
you could creep?
Then into the water
it did slip
Like the snakes really oughtta
leaving you
to photograph your shoe.
Snakes! On a ...post! I kind of like the sound of Mudding together! Very cool official from behind....I had to go out and get one special (just for this theme) too!
I can just imagine those three mudding butterflies:
"I'll be the cleric!"
"I always wanted to be a mage."
"O.K., O.K. I'll be the warrior, again."
P.S. Without snake minders...

Love that snake!

Water moccasins are unknown in West Virginia, they're strictly Deep South.
SNAKES ON A BLOG!
Help me.
No one's mentioned my "for scale" pun.

Your a lot braver then I would have been. I would never have gotten close enough to take these shots.
Very original addition to the theme though.
thanks for all your visits to my site. and my dressed alike couple.
SNAKE!!! To someone who lives in a snake-free country, that looks absolutely terrifying.
I was actually hoping to see a dark side of the moon shot... ;)
Some snake - better to be behind it than in front.

What kind of countertops do they have??
Figures that Lucifer lives in West Virginia.
I think that I will never shake
A thing as scary as that snake.
I'm just going to assume that rock is granite, A.K.

Do you see any toads out your way? I haven't seen a toad in about 10 years.
zencomix, I was just thinking about that.
I saw some after a rain storm here last summer, but I haven't see one this year.

You're way more courageous than I am. Even the garter snakes that pass for wildlife here in the Great White North are enough to give me the willies.
I'm glad one of us has backbone :)
