Vegas at Night

Carmi's photo theme this week is:

If it lights up, or has anything to do with things that light up, we want you to share it.

Las Vegas lights up in a big way.

And this is all in the desert, you say?

Indeed, Rachel.

Las Vegas wouldn't exist without Hoover Dam.

I was trying to figure out where Donnie and Marie were playing then I saw the bird! Las Vegas is the city of lights! Great city just a hop away to the desert!

How are Ocean's other nine?

Cool. Vegas is definitely the place to go for lights!

Well, fer fucks sake, if you can get Cash AND Redemption out of the same dispenser you've found everything you'll ever need.

Here, lemme run my card through that bad boy again....

Exactly what I thought when I saw it, mikey.

But it only gave me a little cash, and I'm not sure about the redemption yet.

I love Paris in the spring time
I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles
I love Paris in the winter when it also sizzles

Vegas. Such a weird spot. Everything around it in nature is SO incredibly ugly. Then this monstrous, man-made, glaring THING pops up.

Yes, everyone should see Vegas once. It's nearly unbelievable. (And, with how two commenters seem to think it's Paris, your photos prove how unbelievable it all is.)

Nice shots you've taken of a place that is definitely all about lights.

Who sold Vegas the Blackpool Tower?

Those common taters don't think it's Paris, Lisa.

They're a couple of wisenheimers, that's what.

P.S. There are pretty areas around Vegas. I have some pictures from the Paiute golf course (about 30 miles north of Vegas) that I'll be posting soon.

Huh. I found the desert, especially the canyons, to be incredibly beautiful. We agree on the amazingly ugly and tasteless VEGASS plunked in the middle of it.

Golf courses are the antithesis of pretty. Go back to Paris, frog.

Also, the new City Center is decent design, from a building standpoint, but shitty urban design. You literally CANNOT get there except by car.

The rise of object buildings has destroyed the urban space. Some of my fellow architects SUCK.

zrm, they have built a monorail which is pretty handy. (I insisted on calling it the "Metro" or the "subway", for my own amusement.)

Unfortunately, it doesn't go to the airport, which is just a hop, skip, and jump from MGM. (But it's giant, red-light filled U-turn by car.)

Yeah, Homer Simpson is Las Vegas City Planner, that makes sense.

They had the gall to claim City Center was a New Urbanist design. Because of the MONORAIL.

I read Las Vegas is going to run out of water soon - it does seem to use a fair amount!

And electricity, which, if it is made by or via the Hoover Dam, and it is going to run out of water too, then does that mean the whole thing will shut down???

I've always wanted to go to Vegas. Seeing this stunning series, I now want to go even more. Thanks for this...what a great way to reflect the theme!
