those are gorgeous!
awesome butterfly pic's!!
don't dragonflies have the cutest faces? they look like little old men with puffed out cheeks!
Thanks, you two.
Laura, take a look at this male Common Pondhawk's face.
(The green nose and mustache is one of the ways you can tell them apart from the male Blue Dasher, which has a white face. Also, the Blue Dasher has a dark rear end, while the Pondhawk has a white one.)

I thought this was a fambly blog. **CLUTCHES PEARLS, FAINTS**
That "head on" photo of the widow skimmer is unreal. You are an extraordinarily talented man, old chum.
The widow skimmer is a very scary military insect.
Do you have heaps of butterfly-friendly plants in your garden, so as to attract these stunning creatures?
And I agree with Mr BBBB - that head-on shot is astonishing.

Needs to be re-made, with skimmers.
Alexia, this is our backyard...not much gardening goes on (except for protecting the mountain laurels in front from the dear).
The buddleja is at the golf course. It almost always has a nice array of butterflies visiting. The bull thistles are scattered in various spots around the mountain. At the bottom where we live is Lake Siri (and several fish ponds). That is dragonfly heaven.
P.S. S.C., I had completely forgotten about that movie.

How about taking some shitty pictures for once. Overachiever.
Here's a Wild Indigo Duskywing (Erynnis baptisiae), R.G.
Possibly...

That top butterfly looks like flying confetti!!! And that widow skimmer!!! AWESOME! That second shot is amazing.
Also, I agree with Randall.
El is blown away by that last photo. El will be sending people over to be blown away as well.
That's a beautiful scene, thunder - I envy you, living surrounded by such beauty.
Looks like a good illustration for "The Road not Taken"
Oh you! I can see why you'd stick to the dragonflies and butterflies.
