Northern water snake, Nerodia sipedon
Other Beesness:
I never see the Red-spotted Purple near any flowers. My photo opportunities come when one lands on the asphalt or dark gravel. Here's a poem by May Swenson.

Translucent!
Poetry? On a blog? Sheesh.
I'll try to watch my P's and Q's next time, BDR.

"If they are picked up by an animal, or person, they will bite repeatedly, as well as release excrement."
If you piss 'em off they fling poo? Must be Republicans.
Also, too.
Oh shit, it's Whacking Day already?
Nope. It's Weasel Stomping Day.
Beautiful pictures!
If it's a stomping day.. I'm your gal! ;p

mikey, Soul Asylum has a new album out; Ex-Replacement Tommy Stinson is picking up bass duties for the deceased Karl Mueller.
Their last album, Silver Lining, was quite good. Maybe not a Dim Light, but certainly as good as Horse they Rode In On.
Amusingly, the album, released last week, featured a label on the eMusic graphic that said "featuring the hit single..." I larfed. How can there be a hit single less than a week after the album is released? It's almost like 'hits' are manufactured.... and then I said, 'wait, there are still 'hit singles'? What year is this?'
Heh. Still downloaded it, I am sure they did a great job. A/V club gave it a B.
mikey, in my experience, when you grab a...
1) water snake: it bites repeatedly, poops on your arm, and releases musk.
2) king snake: bites repeatedly
3) garter snake: poops on your arm, releases musk, might bite.
4) rat snake: see king snake
5) corn snake: doesn't do anything
6) queen snake: might poop
7) green snake: might poop
That's from out in the woods.
Pet store:
8) Boa constrictor: probably nothing
9) Python: CHOMP!

Sorta fascinated by the whole "poo on command" capability. I dunno, I either gotta go or I don't.
TMI?
Huh. I haven't heard any of Silver Lining, let alone Delayed Reaction. I'll have to spend some time cruising the backstreets for 'em...
Saw 'em twice in support of Silver Lining; once in Milburg, and once in MPLS. The new drummer is amazing.
Listened to Delayed Reaction before lunch, but frankly, it was not nearly loud enough as I was doing some phone work.
I'll be on the design board this afternoon, and put on my noise-canceling headers....
THAT'S RIGHT THUNDER. I WILL THREADJACK THIS TO TALK MUSIC. WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT? I DARE YOU TO COME UP HERE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAME UP HERE TOWARD THE END OF AUGUST.
I impressed that you braved the zombie squirrel picture.
