The view out the back of the basement door here in West Virginia has been recently enhanced by the blooming Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis.

just awesome! I love deer. and the sound of rain.
I have some old foteaux of kangaroos on the golf course at Canberra. Must scan. Must buy scanner.
Swanky bird-in-flight shot, you bastard. I can never nab one of those, plus bonus points for not posting anything about that fake sport.
I'm seeing the beautiful red buds everywhere! I'm so sorry we missed you, thundra. Better planning and better technology next time.
The bird is on the wing, R.G.
P.S. Remember that goose wing a I ran across last December? It's still there.

We (the nuthatches, deer, etc.) are all happy the Saying Yes family visited the area, Jennifer.
;-)
Wondering why are they called cercis canadensis when I've never seen them here in Canada. Maybe I need to get out more. They are lovely.
doh, that unknown was me. /knuckles.
I was wondering that meself, knuckles. According to wiki, there are some in Canada: Cercis canadensis L. (Eastern Redbud) is a large shrub or small tree native to eastern North America from Southern Ontario, Canada south to northern Florida...
Also: Add flowers and flower buds to salads, breads and pancakes. They have a slightly sour taste, high in vitamin C. Young pods may be eaten raw, boiled or sauteed. (Tull)
Maybe I'll try it, there's plenty enough around.

Now I know what I'm going to do for my next deer blind: I'll build a golf course! And they will come!
Those pictures are great!! Really love the one of the birds taking off!

Gotta clear all them damned trees.
Ah yes. The Pale-Chested, Round-Bellied Nascar Dad. Beautiful specimen you found there, thudner.
BTW, it should be noted that you are NOT allowed to hunt them.
Also, those pics perfectly capture early Spring. Well done.
vs, you're up early. Baby O'clock?
I'm headed down the hill to the lake to take more pics, it's sunrise.

Beautiful, thunder! Love the woods/rain video. Calming.
I want to say something about all the deer shots lately are awesome and par for the course... but I can't make the pun work right!

Every day. Sometimes I can sneak on and post, sometimes I can't.
Love the redbuds. Maybe even more than the cherry blossoms. I SAID IT!!!!

A lot of North American plants and animals have the species name "canadensis". Linneaus probably told all of the other naturalists he had a hot Canadian girlfriend.
Oh, how did the flowers taste? It's good to know you're foraging!
