Americans are an adventurous people. From past to present, they have used feet, horses, wagons, stagecoaches, canals, railroads, bicycles, automobiles, trucks and buses to "perpetually replenish their supply of chips at the strip mall."

To answer your question about the fruits the robins were eating - I think maybe a hawthorne, Craetagus species.

Those photos are lovely. Now the historical marker makes me think how sad it is that we don't think very big anymore.
