Mushroom Mushroom!

I think this is an Amanita abrupta. But as the expert says, "There is a veritable plethora of look-alikes."

The following four all grow together in the shade under the big trees, in large numbers. Could they be the same species, wearing different outfits? I imagine the answer to that question can be found here. Unfortunately, it's not a simple task like identifying butterflies.

P.S. These pictures were taken in West Virginia in September. Stay tuned for Mushroom, Mushroom! II with the rest.

For the record, the first three photos are all of Cloud City.

I turned it over in my search for the rebels (no disintegrations, though).

Lovely. I only have one rule about mushrooms, I don't eat the ones I find.

You're just lucky Laura wasn't around to do the mushroom mash.

Every woman should channel Godzilla every now and then.

Thank you for, once again, making me smile during an otherwise shitty fucking day.

'Shrooms are neat..both to eat and look at.

Hecate and Dusty, I've eaten the puffballs only, as they are distinctive and easy to identify.

Next post will have pictures of the Eastern Destroying Angel (another poisonous Amanita species) and 6 other random shrooms.

Laura could have worn herself out crushing shrooms in West Virginia...although her shoes would have taken a beating on the rocky soil, as well.

I tried crossing my eyes with your multiple images but I did not get the 3D effect chiz chiz.

Some people might suspect that you are doing the 2-by-2 grid of images just to show off your proficiency with the Tables tag.

C'mon, those are solar-powered light-your-garden-path deals. We city people are wise to you.
