I read the news today oh, boy

Here are two items juxtaposed in today's Google News.

Got that? We need to keep tax breaks for our biggest and most profitable corporations (tax breaks that were instituted to encourage drilling and exploration long ago, when energy prices were low). But Tom Coburn is quitting the already silly "Gang of Six" because they won't cut spending on regular Americans enough. It's insane to cut domestic spending when unemployment is 9%. Unemployment will surely rise even more, perhaps putting us back into a double-dip recession (or worse).

Doesn't anyone care? (Video posted by M. Bouffant)

I have no idea what this post is about because once I saw you-know-who's ugly mug, I went blind and am dictating to this comment to the thousand monkey typists we hired on taxpayer dime, no Dickens or Shakespeare yet.

real unemployment is reaching up towards 25%, getting well within Depression range!

So I think a double dip recession might be our BEST outcome.

Excitement! Adventure! Really wild things!

In other news to make you laugh, Santorum the Frothy Man, claims McCain, a victim of torture, does not understand how torture works.

That's a frothy mix of stupidity and evil.

But rich people/huge corporations are ACHIEVERS and JOB CREATORS. Why the unemployment rate is still high is a mystery. All I know is this: THEY SHOULD NEVAR EVAR BE TAXED.

Just be glad I didn't combine GINGRINCH and Santorum, as some evil motherfuckers did over at the Mothership.

Gingrich and glitter, combined.

Newtie's having a tough day *sniff*.

The slob has been around long enough to know the one thing you don't do is make the mistake of telling the truth about some bit or another of G.O.P. b.s. like the Ryan 'budget plan'.

The problem with a fifteen trillion dollar economy, even in a society with close to half a billion firearms, is just how bad it can get before the fat happy people get off their ass and bring it to a halt.

At one point, oh, two decades ago, the people could have effected real change at the ballot box.

Now, the course is clear - think libya with many more armed idiots. Think Greece with guns. And DO think about what the US governement will do, no matter which 'party' holds the White House, to put down a real rebellion that actually threatens the status quo.

It ain't gonna happen soon, unless something weird happens to drive gas prices over eight or ten bucks a gallon (where they actually SHOULD be in the first instance), but any and all talk of 'preserving prosperity for our children and grandchildren' should bear in mind is that it is THEM we are consigning to that violent, dystopian future.

Which is a drag, 'cause I'd volunteer tomorrow...

mikey's got it: Not for a while yet. Even then, I suspect more of a whimper than a bang.

The children will be left a burnt-out husk, but won't have expected anything better.
