Carlson finds it "frightening" that "a lot of people consider" Jon Stewart "to be real news".
Bonus Wretchen'! Carlson declares it a "ridiculous...waste" of "taxpayer dollars" for Colbert to testify before House on immigration.

these clips always remind me of the Stepford robots. you know, the ones that keep repeating the same three lines, over and over, with one of two facial expressions - wide eyed concern or wide eyed affection. And then they need to go back to the shop for a reboot.
to be fair, Wretchen also finds math frightening.
I propose the Gretchen Carlson Infotainment Reawakening.
OH she's has stepped in it now! I'm sure Jon Stewart will have fun with this tonight. Gretchen is one of his favorite Fox News bimbettes to poke fun at.
To be fair, Jon Stewart would be the first person to agree with her. Difference is, he does a comedy show on a network called COMEDY CENTRAL. He's not pretending to do "news" on a network that claims to be "fair and balanced." His show is at least not advertised as something it's not.
And come on, is this not sour grapes? Remember when Fox tried to do its own version of The Daily Show? It was beyond lame and I think lasted 4 months.
What they are missing is that it's possible to learn even more from satire than from the truth. He actually went out and worked with these ag workers. Even in character, he can offer insight into the situation, far more than someone like the Fox Stooges can.
Also, I doubt he will testify under oath.
when they discovered that Daily Show viewers were more informed about current events than Fox News viewers, it must have left a mark.
One of the theories put forth, as I recall, is that in order to 'get' satire, you need to have a fair understanding of the underlying facts.
One can see where this might get up the nose of Fox and Frenzez.
One begins to suspect that they put her in the middle so that viewers are always hoping to see an upskirt.
I loved it when Jon Stewart ran that clip of her playing the violin in some pageant or other and wondered what happened to that girl.
FAUX has abandoned any pretense of being a "Fair and Balanced" news channel.
They are a G.O.P. campaign arm, as MMfA chronicles every day.

This came to mind.
I don't, N.T.
Stephen Colbert is popular with a group of people who (for instance) my Congresswoman needs to see show up and vote in November: college students.
The "We're just going to grind it out as policy wonks and then cravenly surrender to the combined Blue Dogs + GOBPers" strategy isn't getting it done.
The GOP in this day and age is completely ridiculous. But our corporate media is paid not to say so, and too many Democrats are too chicken (or else corrupt themselves) to say so.
So bring on Colbert and Stewart, I say.

This isn't Gretchen, it's Megyn Kelly, but she's very frightened also. That picture of what is clearly a swarthy, muslim nuclear detonation has her squirming to avoid those embarrassing seat puddles...
Yeah, well, just cause it works doesn't make it less dum. All they seem to do is sacrifice so that next time we can do the really good thing. When are they actually going to do the good thing? I'm still waiting on the good thing.
Stop blaming the republicans. Dems have had plenty of power in the past several decades and they haven't stopped America from doing any of the evil shit it keeps doing. They're not any better. They are just a different color of stupid.
It's like fucking soda. Coke and Sprite may be wildly different colors, but they are both just fucking sugar and water.
And on top of that, you're basically arguing that Colbert is a campaign tool. How fucking pissed would you be if the Republicans used the floor of the house for campaigning?
How fucking pissed would you be if the Republicans used the floor of the house for campaigning?
What? When have the Republicans used it for anything else?
Stop blaming the republicans.
Allow me re-quote myself: "But our corporate media is paid not to say so, and too many Democrats are too chicken (or else corrupt themselves) to say so."
P.S. mikey said...

Mikey, if it was just me, myself, and I making the attributions, you could be right. But it's media matters, they watch FAUX all day and know the difference between Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly.

Hell, whatevs, I certainly don't. I just thought it was a funny picture.
Sorry. I'll go find somebody else to send a funny picture to.
Geez...
Hey, I agree it's a funny picture!
I just got all defensive for no reason.
Can't we move on to my next bowerbird nest of a post?
Feel the healing....

but isn't it still a stupid thing that congress is bringing in Stephen Fucking Colbert?
well, they also had Elmo testify. So is a comedian in character any less dumb than testimony from a guy under a table with his hand in a sock? I mean, it's only one step above having actor212 testify.
Anyway, if you watch his testimony, it was actually pretty effective, especially the last couple of sentences. His ability to ape the platitudes of Fox-holes, while getting the exact opposite meaning across, is really quite sublime.
Even if the Marching Morons don't get it, the aliens studying our remains will understand that not all of us were succumbing to the Idiocracy.
"What? When have the Republicans used it for anything else?"
I believe that's usually shortened as IOKIYAD. They are both shitpiles. One is just glittery shit.
Hadn't heard about the Elmo thing. Think it's just as dum.
I believe that's usually shortened as IOKIYAD.
Here is a prior comedian's testimony:
....In his testimony, Mr. Wolfowitz ticked off several reasons why he believed a much smaller coalition peacekeeping force than General Shinseki envisioned would be sufficient to police and rebuild postwar Iraq. He said there was no history of ethnic strife in Iraq, as there was in Bosnia or Kosovo.
P.S. Colbert was testifying in a committee room, not on the House floor.
You do find yourself in the following company with your high dudgeon over this tremendous outrage:
Fox News host Megyn Kelly and Rep. Steve King (R-IA).
Maybe Megyn and Steve King are right about something for once?
Probably not.

Once again, I fail to see how any of your arguments are anything other than "those guys do it, too."
I mean, yeah, you could just take the position that anything the people on Fox News think is wrong, but it seems more likely to me here that you're just being partisan.
If Bill O'Reilly were testifying before the house - floor, committee or whatever - you'd be livid.
So, yeah, Fox News is only attacking because they're Democrats... That doesn't mean that you're not only defending it because it's the Dems...
As for what Paul Wolfowitz has to do with anyhting. Yes he's a stuipd asshole and he shouldn't have been testifying anywhere either. I fail to see how that means colbert has expertise.
Following the logic of that argument, we're to believe that anything done by the Republicans is ok for the Dems to do. I don't see how taking their lead is a good idea.

Republicans made war crimes U.S. policy.
Democrats had a comedian testify before a House committee.
Exact same thing, and only a filthy partisan would try to deny it.
