Far Out

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 343 is Far from Home. The furthest I've been is to Maui, followed by Argentina. Back then I just had film cameras, and none of the shots are available here. (I'd take pictures of the pictures, if I could.) This pic is out west from the earlier days of my blog.

And here is my contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #71:

Other Beesness:

Update: I sometimes forget that Nature Notes is something you do in advance. This is my contribution to Nature Notes (#322). Here's a butterfly party down by Lake Siri:

For Skywatch Friday - July 30, 2015 Edition, a pic from Cacapon Mountain looking over Berkeley Springs (you can't see the town because it's behind the foothills):

Also, looking north over Lake Siri at Cacapon Mountain:

Imperial Moth

My contribution to eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #84. And to Butterfly Week 5 at Andyslens.

And now for Le Grand Fromage: Imperial Moth, Eacles imperialis

Here's another of that face (I was trying to get a better pic than I did in 2012):

Warmed up and ready to fly off into the woods:

You'll just have to imagine an Imperial Moth wearing a Stormtrooper helmet, I have no photoshop skills at all.

Blue Skies, Puffy Clouds

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 342 is Sky. Here's some sky behind Lake Siri (and Cacapon Mountain) from a week ago:

And some more above this building in German Village, Columbus:

This is one of the more spectacular fences in German Village every year and is my contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #70:

Bold Chipmunk

My contribution to EileeninMd's Saturday's Critters #83:

Usually chipmunks head for a hole in the ground when frightened, but this one tried to brazen it out on the tree while I was walking Theda. Eventually he/she/chipmunk ran for it...until then Theda had her nose to the ground and didn't even notice.

Here are a couple of butterflies for Weekend Butterfly #06 at Andyslens:

A few birds who visited the suet feeder this week:

Cardinal Fence

This cardinal is sitting on a horse fence in Ashburn, Va.

These two fences are in D.C.:

Here are a couple of critters, just for the halibut:

P.S. Here's someone's front lawn in D.C. It's entirely devoted to flowers.

Back To The Past Year

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 341 is The Camera. I'm going back into time for this one, because I don't have a second camera with me (and because I have some shots of an old camera from 2012 on this laptop).

Here's a picture of my Canon G12 from January, 2012 (taken with my even older Canon A710):

And here's a shot of that bird through the G12 (I was using a remote, that plus the tripod let me get close to the shy birds on the feeder):

Back to the present! I've seen some Red-winged Blackbirds fledglings by the ponds above Lake Siri. I thought at last I had a great shot of one, but I download it and his/her fuzzy downy fledgling face was behind a leaf. Oh well (pic taken with my Canon G15)...

I'm also linking to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday 155.

Here's Looking At You, Deer

My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #82. I saw this big buck along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail on Wednesday.

When he got up to leave...

This is my best picture of a Snowberry Clearwing yet. The moth stopped hovering and parked on a leaf for a bit. It's my contribution to Weekend Butterfly #05 at Andyslens.

Here's Amelia!

Who's Sheepish Now?

My contribution to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #68:

How about a bumblebee?

And here's something for fun, he typed sheepishly.

Gray Catbird

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 340 is Liquidity.

It's been so long since I've been to a beach. But here's Lake Siri in June:

I was hoping to get another House Finch at the Dog Bowl, but I was spotted. On the other hand, I have a couple more of those photos I haven't cropped and used yet, so here's another!

Wednesday's almost over, but not quite! Here's a Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis) for Wild Bird Wednesday 154.

Polyphemus Moth

My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #81. I'm also linking to Andyslens' Weekend Butterfly #04.

This is a Polyphemus Moth I found outside the basement door in W.V. early in June. Like the Imperial Moth (bottom of post), it was attracted to the light during the evening. (Still hoping to get Luna Moth pics someday...I've seen them twice there over the years.)

Here are a couple pictures I didn't take. First is from a dive boat friend of someone who comments at Eschaton:

And this is a picture my brother-in-law took off St. Thomas last month:
