Staghorn Sumac

My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #50:

Remember the Gray Catbird? It was eating Staghorn Sumac drupes.

You'll find Stagorn Sumac all along the Washington & Old Dominion Trail that passes the Luck Stone quarry in Leesburg.

Here's a Carolina Wren from the trail last week:

Other business: Theda in the leaves.

And a doggie waiting for its human outside Safeway:

Signs and Fences

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 318 is Columns and rows. And TexWiscGirl has Good Fences #36 up (not to mention, Whistlers on Wednesday 103).

Let's see if I can catch two birdies with one camera? Here are some natural columns in Little Forest Park, Washington, D.C.

Mysterious entities have arranged some of the columns:

Theda will investigate.

Fences? Sure!

And one last column:

Gray Catbird

Here's hoping Eileeninmd gets her google problems solved.

A couple birds that visited the feeder in West Virginia last week (I was traveling from Ohio to Virginia, and stopped at the house for a couple days):

A Gray Catbird in Ashburn, Va.

And now for something completely different: Rory watching Terminator 3.

Caught Redhanded

I did but tie one fellow, who was taken redhanded and in the fact, to the horns of a wild stag.

My contribution to eileeninmd's Saturday's Critter's #49 (and a second to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #33):

Here's a praying mantis with one of the ladybugs that swarm to the south side of the bulding on sunny fall days.

German Village fence cat:

Here's another picture of the 2nd Brown Snake I saw a couple weeks ago. This was before it puffed itself up in an attempt to look bigger:

Fall in German Village

My contribution to TexWisGirl's Good Fences #33:

Remember this fence?

Here it is at the end of October:

How about this one?

Here it is at the end of October:

But those flowers will all be back next year. One fence has a very dedicated gardener. The other has very determined wild flowers!

Metallic Cranes

My contribution to Carmi's Thematic Photographic 315 - Metallica:

The last couple of times I've walked to the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, I'd been hoping to see some wading birds up close. No such luck. But I did notice some cranes on the way back, so I took pictures of them instead.

Here are the train tracks that run between the park and downtown:
