My contribution to Michelle's Nature Notes (#394). There were a couple of whitetail deer eating behind the shed in my sister's backyard, so I used the shed as cover to sneak up on them. But they took off as I pressed the shutter, so this is all I got:
The Great Golden Digger Wasp is a benign, gentle wasp currently being studied by scientists for its behavioral responses.
I'm also linking to TexWiscGirl's Good Fences #133. You've seen these horses before...

benign? hm. My ankle still hurts from a sting I got two weeks ago.
Some wasps are less benign and gentle than others, Mac.

It is hard to snap a deer. They have senitive hearing. Great shot of the wasp, but keep the distance.
Even though it turned tail, it was good seeing its pretty rear end!
Great photo of the wasp - i've not seen one like it.
Good
Nice macro shots of the wasps!
love the flag! :) and pretty wasp shots. and beautiful horses. thank you.
Hmm - the words 'benign', 'gentle' and 'wasp' do not go together in my mind. Beautiful pics, though!
Interesting info about the wasp. Haven't seen on like it before.
Excellent pictures of the wasp! I like the horse too!
Hello, the wasp photos are awesome. I love the horses. Happy Friday, have a happy weekend!
Nice lens work on the wasp, tho'.
Oh those deer! I am going to read up on that new insect to me... thank you... Michelle
Deer can move so quickly. Neat looking wasp & some lovely horses by the fences.
