In front of the house in West Virginia I have some mountain laurels. Here's what happens if one doesn't have a deer fence:

At the side of the house, one has been languishing for a few years. (But living...because it has a fence!) So I finally moved the entire kit and kaboodle to the front.

I had some helpers!

oh, those little toads are adorable! i like your view!
Who needs a mountain laurel when you have all that delicious wood sorrel?
That frog is very handsome... my guess is pickerel frog- here's a lineup.
Oh that tiny toad is just adorable. We had a little green tree frog join us on the deck this evening, and the kids went wild!
I looked at that link when I was trying to decide, B^4. The markings do seem Pickerel, but the snout is kind of pointy...
P.S. Here's another link: new Leopard frog in NYC!

The meadow, woods, and mountain (with deer) is lovely and peaceful. I can see why you like it there.
When I was growing up in North Marin the deer population was much larger than the human population. The primary strategies were planting Oleander and Pamapas grass to make the deer choose somebody else's plants to eat...
Sweet little frog.
