A Touch of Red

Nats pitcher Gio Gonzalez hits his second career home run Wednesday night on a hanging curveball in the 5th by the Marlins' Kevin Slowey.

It got down below 40 degrees and was quite windy...not a lot of fans left in the seats to see the final out.

The red-bellied is gorgeous. But it's its head that's red, no?

Braves-Nats, I'm calling it now, a pennant race for the ages. Gonna' be a great summer.

Imagine if there a sports thing and you went to it and there was just sports without giant Roosevelt trying to give you Tee shirts. Be weird eh?

That top shot is one of my favourite bird pics ever. Ever.

True, Jim H. And yet...

Their strikingly barred backs and gleaming red caps make them an unforgettable sight – just resist the temptation to call them Red-headed Woodpeckers, a somewhat rarer species that's mostly black on the back with big white wing patches.

P.S. I now realize that isn't Teddy...it's William Howard Taft.

The one problem with the red-bellied woodpeckers is that they get pissed off when you grab them.

"Angry Birds" indeed.

How come no one is asking the truly important existential questions such as why doesn't Yahoo count pitcher hitting stats?

Nothing could bring home my estrangement from modern society better than the sight of Giant Roosevelt winning a running race. Thanks Thundra.

We've had a red-bellied woodpecker hanging around a lot lately. They're fun to see. Cardinals are regulars, but that flash of red never gets old.

I can't wait for the bird migration to move through... another month and it should be nothing but ake-shun!

They don't even count knockdowns?

If baseball started giving points for knockouts, I might start watching.

That's a very stylish hat that woodpecker is wearing.
