Up and down the Olentangy River

The flowers below grow on vines located in a dry stream bed that feeds into the Olentangy. Smut Clyde (IF that is his real name) suggested that these are shrimp wearing Mickey Mouse ears. I have my doubts.

Asiatic Dayflower, Commelina communis

In sunny Socal, dry stream bed is redundant.

Do not forget your paddle up that creek.

Started by Googling 'Tradescantia' since the leaves alternating from a segmented stem looked similar. And Yes they were related, Yay me!

I also learned that "The cells of the stamen hairs of some Tradescantia are colored blue, but when exposed to sources of ionizing radiation such as gamma rays, the cells mutate and change color to pink; they are one of the few tissues known to serve as an effective bioassay for ambient radiation levels."

There must be some way to use this fact in a science fiction story.
