Health insurance companies want you to die

(But only after they take all your money.)

Screen cap from the forthcoming issue of Harper's:

Cue Rhonda Hackett:

Myth: Canada's health care system is a cumbersome bureaucracy.

The U.S. has the most bureaucratic health care system in the world. More than 31 percent of every dollar spent on health care in the U.S. goes to paperwork, overhead, CEO salaries, profits, etc. The provincial single-payer system in Canada operates with just a 1 percent overhead. Think about it. It is not necessary to spend a huge amount of money to decide who gets care and who doesn't when everybody is covered.

P.S.
AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARS, WHERE DOES IT INDICATE THAT HEALTH CARE FOR ALL IS UN-CONSTITUTIONAL?

Update: In response to Another Kiwi, I thought I'd post something from Digby's comments.

I would only say this:

It’s politically smart to go after the leaders. It’s politically dumb to name-call the people who get fooled by the leaders.

It’s also hard to defend on the merits. We liberals get fooled by our leaders all the time. How many people really believe that our leaders are currently trying to address the fundamental lunacy of our health care “system,” including the vast wells of profit which make our level of spending so crazy?

I don’t believe that our leaders are trying to do that. But our leaders keep saying they are. Most of us implicitly believe them. Does that mean that we’re stupid too?

It's not yet clear what is happening here, to me at least. (Unlike the era from 2001-2008, in which we were all relentlessly lied to by the most incompetent and evil Administration in history.)

But I have to respect Bob's opinion, he's been right about the right for a long time.

It's not development and it's not underdevelopment. It's degeneration:

Percentage of Michigan counties that have turned at least one paved road into a gravel road since 2007 to save money: 30

Don't you wish your girlfriend subscribed to Harper's like me.

Road reversal!

Obviously, Devo knew a fuck of a lot more than they were telling us.

Thanks for the Pammy reference, J—. Yet another one who scoffs at the Death Panels at his own peril.

Butt I don't need to read about Michigan's roads in Harper's. I have to drive there from Columbus for work all to often.

MY POOR LITTLE CAR!

Well, I have to say that the news of the administration pulling the end-of-life part of any Health reforms, sucks big time. Are the people of America so fucking stupid that Ms. Moosejaw's pronouncements about fictitious "Death Panels" have taken root, even sprouted? Or is it the just the ones with guns?
Then there is the sad arse performance by the fucking Democrats. We have a so-called left of centre party that caved when it was the government and enacted the biggest dumb arse law of all time about Maori land rights and it does not assuage the Right Death Machine to give into it. That government went down in flames last year after alienating their Maori constituents.
You might gather that I am a little peeved about this but it is weak kneed arse licking and it will not work.

I agree on the futility of compromising with the right wing, Another Kiwi.

It happens here all the time. After the legislation in question is made barely tolerable to reasonable people, all the rethugs vote against it anyway.

But that's not even all there is to it.

There's the question of just how many nominal Democrats prefer the status quo, and are happy to keep sucking up the corporate graft and corporate media good will while selling out their constituents.

Many of the constituents are very happy to be sold out having imbibed deeply of the corporate Kool Aid. Re the lame arse lady who doesn't want 'Merica to be Russia.
I mean, these people, deserve to have medical emergencies that they make a full and healthy recovery from.

Fair enough comment from Bob, there.

The Cynic Speaks:

Humans are a stupid species. The literate/rational/informed among us (A tiny minority, but it's us!) only serve to accentuate the idiocy & ignorance of the Undifferentiated Tissue that populates our dying world.

That said, we 'Murkins sho' nuff have elevated mental flat-lining to a probably unintentional performance art.

Mr. ®© is correct to be confused. Whether the media/gov't. complex is confused itself, or deliberately confuses us, or both (No one is innocent!) who can tell any more? And why?
