That's a frightening sequence of photos! Years ago, a friend of mine was in the car with her family when they smelled smoke. They pulled over and got out, then watched as the smoke turned to out-and-out flame. By the time the fire department got there, the car had been completely consumed.
Thank goodness they were all fine. Either way, it's a fear I think we all live with.

That red car that was sitting in front after the last picture? It seemed to have had a rubbernecking incident with the Jersey barriers on the left side of the highway.

I be darned. I always thought cars only caught fires when they fall off cliffs.
I always wonder what makes cars catch fire like that.

The only cars I've seen burning were both VWs. Something to do w/ the air-cooling?
But it's usually a fuel or oil line breaking & the fuel/oil getting on a hot surface.
