Old & In The Way

Carmi's Thematic Photographic 339 is Aged.

The house in West Virginia was built in the early 1970s. For that matter, Theda is around 12 years old.

"The order Odonata ("toothed ones") includes some of the most ancient and beautiful insects that ever roamed Earth, as well as some of the largest flying invertebrates ever to have lived."

And here's a male Common Whitetail:

Also, I have some bumblebee pics to contribute to Michelle's Nature Notes (#318):

UPDATE: Happy B-Day to my sister! Here's one of her wolfhounds, Amelia:

Mouse over pics for captions, and click them for larger versions.

I listened to the music while looking at the photos.. It worked well. I love the idea of these smallish insects bring dinosaurs and being admirable predators too. I have a photo of one chewing on another insect... Haven't posted it yet.. Like the bees enjoying the clover. Much to our neighbors' horror, we encourage the clover in the yard.. The pollinators like it.. Michelle

The bees and whitetails are beautiful - I read that in prehistoric times they were HUGE! Theda is gorgeous, as usual!

I love your Theda at the fireplace! Great captures of the whitetail and the bumblebees. Enjoy your day!

All we want now is some dinosaur bones/fossils and we have covered millions of years.
Theda has the right idea but does she count as aged yet?

Love the nature shots.

All delightful photos, and from the ancients of man life goes on....and on and hopefully a lot longer for us all..... that's what counts!

Happy Birthday to your sister! I love dragonflies because they eat so many mosquitoes, and they look so amazing. I love damselflies even better. Tonight, I went to work early to grab some unripe walnuts to make nocino, and I walked through a cloud of damselflies... pure bliss!

I can always count on you to take a theme and make it yours. I hope you never change: Your storytelling gift is remarkable, and I'm so pleased you've chosen to share it with us as part of Thematic.

The moth is absolutely gorgeous, I've managed to photograph it only once.
And that first dragonfly is also a marvel, wish I could see that species, it doesn't occur in France.
Enjoy your week :)
