Did You Even Watch The Video, Josh?

Watch the video, or read the NY Daily News:
Impersonator Reggie Brown had his mic cut off and was escorted off the stage after he slammed Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Michelle Bachman during his routine at the GOP event in New Orleans on Saturday.

"Blasphemy! Cut off his mic!"

He is such a tool- he made it sound like the guy was super racist, but instead it was like Colbert wrote the jokes.

Although- having not watched yet, TP says he was an eensy bit racist at the beginning, which is not why he got pulled.

Oh.

Do we hate Josh Marshall now?

Maybe it would be easier if you just published a list of people we DON'T hate...

Okay, so it was okay to have this guy participate in strawman "debates" on John Stossel's show, but it wasn't okay to have him skewer GOP nutbags. Yeah...

At least Stossel will never pull that strawman "debate" shit again.

Pinko, I watched the whole video. He made fun of everybody, but it was the mocking of the GOP candidates that got his mike cut.

Mikey, do you think J.M.'s comment matched what happened on this video? Do 'we' need to pretend that it did?

No.

We need to take a deep breath and not attack everybody we admire when they slip.

We need to recognize that not everybody is going to agree with us, or meet our standards, or even get everything right.

And yeah, we need to call out genuine apostasy.

I'm sorry, m'man, I can't get onboard your ship of perfection...

Well, mikey, you can ride your galley of sensible Democrats to whatever ports it takes you to.

How's that working out, so far?

Let's not attack each other, and I think there is some projection going on.

Josh Marshall is so inside baseball that he's not really progressive. This isn't a purity test- he's a media establishment figure who sells himself as a different flavor. He's no one to be proud of. I don't hate him, I would just like to replace him with someone better- someone with more integrity. You can't criticize Hardball if you should up to play games on Hardball. He's pushing his website not an agenda. TPM is Politico Lite- they aren't as bad as Politico, but they do punch hippies, and they do play rhetorically cheap pool with critics on the left, and during the 2008 primaries he made the massive mistake of shredding his reputation by saying "we report horse race not policy, because everyone knows about policy." Is this true? No- like Bob Somerby says, how can you convince anyone of anything, if you only play childish games? Why can't you report on the facts? These guys make mistakes- but they almost never admit it, they just ignore it.

But once you're inside, you're out. The machine destroys minds and reaps souls. Kodos 2012.

What Pinko says. He is a more intelligent Yglesias. He tongue-bathes the powerful to secure his position, while punching anyone more left than Chris Matthews. He is one more likely to successfully stick a knife in the back of the left because they will have trusted him.

TPM certainly didn't cover itself in glory over the Wiener wiener.

Relax,guys. You're all pretty.

Smells more like spin than a slip-up to me.

Also: "life-deprived political world" my stinky white ass.

When your technology is roaring forward like a rocket while everything on the books from the legal definition of personhood to child labor laws to the motherfucking meat of the Magna Carta are fair game, you can be sure you're in the most lively political times since at least the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, no matter how convincingly or sincerely some petit-bourgeois wonk yawns all over you.

I almost hate to bring this up. Italix-Americans have a new member!

I can't fault Marshall here, because I tend to stop watching videos after 30 seconds unless there are cats doing something amusing.

That is just exercising good judgement. We only have so much time in a day...and cats are always doing IMPORTANT things.

(Also I chuckled.)

I suppose one could make the case that by 'it got so bad with questionably appropriate jokes', J.M. meant the RLC was not getting the unmistakeably inappropriate jokes it had contracted for.

I didn't make it through. FWIW I had no idea what Marshall meant. He's never been funny and is not trustworthy when it comes to what is or what is not.

It reminds me of the days when the hot debate was whether the New Yorker cover was funny.

I almost swallowed the end of a shotgun over that one.

So for what it's worth, the comedian in question was interviewed on NPR yesterday. He says he ran over time; he was told he had 20 minutes and when his time was up they shut him down.

Would they have done so if he was bagging on Dems? Maybe, maybe not, but he himself wasn't bent out of shape over it.

As far as Josh Marshall goes, he's another data point. None of them, individually, is going to get it right all the time. Shrug.
