My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #152.
I didn't see as many butterflies this year as I'm used to. But there were some out in Ashburn this month. Here is a Variegated Fritillary:
A Clouded Sulphur and Cabbage White sharing a dandelion:
I took some photos of the Great Golden Digger Wasp last month when it was shiny and getting nectar in the sun. They also get down and dirty, as the digger part of the name indicates.
I'm linking to Anni's I'd Rather B Birdin'.
These are vultures in Ashburn.
Some D.C. platter birds:
Last but not least, here's another shot of Miley, the St. Dane!

Enjoyed your butterflies, and Miley is so cute!
I wonder how long before Miley will need a bigger bed... so darn cute I can't quit smiling. I like the little platter birds to. so cute..
Beautiful butterfly.
Hello, pretty butterflies. Miley looks cute and relaxed. Love the birds too! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
Oh Miley!
GREAT shot of Miley!
cute miley. love all the butterfly activity this time of year.
While the butterflies and birds are nice, you got me at "dog o'clock"!...:)JP
I like the butterflies but the great dane is priceless!
The butterflies are very pretty. Miley looks so comfortable napping on the cushion. And that makes me want to nap in this cool afternoon!
That Great Golden Digger Wasp is so very interesting. Someone gave it a very apt name and I'm thinking now that there must be a smaller on. Think I might do some digging on Goggle.

Interesting wasp..,.I've probably seen one before, but never knew its name 'til today!
Love Miley...sweet.
Great birds today. AND butterflies.
Thanks for sharing this weekend at I'd Rather B Birdin'
Beautiful pictures of the butterflies, the wasp is really special.
I love them all, my compliments.
Best regards, Irma
Great collection of critters.
Good eye, Phil.
Why I guessed Great Golden Digger Wasp: similar shape, coloration, and location (this one was just a hundred feet down the trail from the ones I photographed in October).
Also, it was doing what I expected a GGDW would do when it wasn't visiting goldenrod flowers: rummaging around in the trail dust. (In fact, I think it had located some hapless bug).
However, their faces are completely different. A mystery for my Nature Notes post on Monday.

Very nice butterfly photos but the wasp is stunning!
Thanks for you kind visit, I wish you a great week :)
cool image of the vultures :) And beautiful butterflies.
"Buzzards", "bugs" and butterflies are all wonderful through your lens -- thank you for the needed smiles. Although thinking about fewer butterflies isn't a good thing I'm sure.
You didn't leave an email address in your comment on my latest post where you mentioned your blog name ... so I will let you know here that you would enjoy Eugene. But you can stream one of our icons -- here's a link to a local NPR radio weekly program. If the link doesn't work, just Google 'Dead Air Downtown Deb'. http://klcc.org/programs/dead-air
I've seen a few butterflies myself. It has been such a warm fall.
Beautiful images, the butterflies are excellent.
Someone else loves their bed as our kids do, eh? :)
Have a Happy Day!
Peace :)
Beautiful pictures of the butterflies !!
Greetings
loved the butterflies but the sleeping beauty most
I did not see many butterflies this past summer and no monarchs. But I have been seeing them now - sometimes I think they are leaves. Pretty captures...and it looks like someone is enjoying their bed!!
