My contribution to Michelle's Nature Notes (# 372).
This is the first Tiger Swallowtail I've been able to snap pictures of this year. Generally I have tons of pics of them by June. Same with the Monarchs (btw, I have zero Monarch pics this year).
Speaking of my old elementary school, I was walking Theda and spotted this chipmunk on a stump next to the path. Theda was looking ahead and never saw it.
The local crepe myrtles are strutting their stuff:
Here's an article about pruning them. I see people around here that cut theirs back to post stumps every year.
Mouse over pics for captions, and click them for larger versions.

I love the Swallowtail, beautiful.
Love chippies...so cute but we rarely see them. I saw swallowtails in spring but nothing now. Yours is gorgeous!
The Swallowtail is beautiful and I hope you get some Monarchs too (I know that there are fewer and fewer of them and that is so sad). Crepe Myrtle doesn't grow in the Pacific Northwest, so we didn't see it until our first RV trip south -- I was in awe at their beauty.
Love the delicate butterflies! And thanks for helping with the id on my dragonfly! You're the best! Hugs, Diane
awwww the swallowtails are so lovely.
nice.
Aren't they lovely?!
Gorgeous butterfly! The chipmunk is so cute. Enjoy your week.
Lovely pictures of swallowtail and chipmunks. I hope you get monarchs soon and I hope they survive and do not become extinct.

The Swallowtail is a stunning flutter. I hope you get to see and shoot some Monarchs before too long.
Love the Swallowtail! Same with us on the butterflies. Only a few Swallowtails have appeared, and I saw one Monarch only fleetingly.
In a word awesome! I am a little bit (positive) envy those beautiful butterfly in your first two photos! The little squirrel is great to see. The flowers are upsetting surprising and exciting to see.
