Redbuds and Green Tiger Beetle
My contribution to Michelle's Nature Notes (#356). B^4 asked me if I'd seen any redbuds. I'm planting them, bud! (But I don't think the low temperatures at night are friendly, at least when they're still above ground.)

We had such a mild winter that so many things are popping. They are not going to like the upcoming low of 24.

That beetle looks like a piece of enamel-ware jewelry or maybe even Jade. Beautiful.
Last year, I tried sauteing the young redbud seed pods like snow peas for the first time. I'd tried the flowers on your recommendation a while back. Redbuds just keep on giving for most of the year.
Have you ever run into pawpaw trees in your rambles? Wiki says they can be found in New York State, but they are rare and considered threatened.
That is a good looking beetle! I love Redbuds! I hope yours do well!
I went to look up 'Redbuds', as we don't have trees by that name in this country - except, I found that i actually have one growing in my garden!! Its common name here is Forest Pansy, and it is a variety of Cercis canadensis, the Eastern Redbud.

We have an older redbud, it is still doing well. They are beautiful trees. The beetle is a pretty color, great photos. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
I love that Downy Woodpecker! We had to stop putting suet up, as the squirrels demolished the suet AND the holder! However, we now put flutter butter up (peanut butter for birds, in a jar, which they go into and the squirrel can't reach). Love the beetle too! Looks quite big.
