Luna Moth

My contribution to eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #85. I've been hoping to get pictures of a Luna Moth for many years.

So those were from Wednesday. This morning, I look out the basement sliding glass door and something with a familiar lime-green color is flopping around in the leaves.

What do you know, a slightly smaller Luna.

Another Imperial Moth showed up last night. Therefore: MOTHRA FACE OFF!

That last is my contribution to Weekend Butterfly #08 at Andyslens. Speaking of Imperial Moths, thanks to reallysmallfish for this:

Last but not least (although smallest), here's an Eastern Tailed-blue:

UPDATE: Mothra Song

The Luna moth is exquisitely beautiful, such a lovely green like celadon, and lovely form. The Imperial moth is somehow very strange, if I tilt my head to the right I see a heart-shaped face with an angry uni-brow, eyes, and a mustache with no nose, then the upper wings look a little like arms bent sharply at the elbows and dark fists. Your star wars Imperial storm trooper is a cute addition. I don't know how you can handle them, you must be a moth whisperer.

Oh wow! The Luna Moth is just amazing. For people who have a phobia about moths it must be terrifying. I just think its wonderful.

Goodness, an information-packed post (at least, for me). Congratulations on fulfilling your wish to get photos of not just one but two Luna Moths! The face-off was pretty neat :) I peered for quite some time into the face of reallysmallfish's imperial moth. Amazing to ponder the expressions of insects sometimes. I've found that a lot with dragonflies. Gorgeous Eastern Tailed Blue.

Many thanks for id-ing the Cabbage White, the Water Striders and the Shield Bugs. I did some googling of Shield Bugs (there sure are some beauties among them). The closes I came to one that seemed like "mine" was called a Green Stink Bug Nymph. Go Figure :) Thanks again!!

I have to hand it to you, Thunder, your butterflies are great, but they've got nothing on your moths.

What a find! A two-fer. Thanks for the name of the bee fly. Sadly, a cat brought in a luna once. The guilt hangs heavy. I hope it was old. They have been really good lately. Just mice. In the house. That I can bear!
