Fiery Skipper

My contribution to Eileeninmd's Saturday's Critters #75. Here are a couple of Fiery Skippers from Ashburn, Va.

I saw several of these hummingbird moths (Snowberry Clearwing, Hemaris diffinis), but it was very difficult to get a picture. They never hold still! You can see the right wing and side of this one (best to open it in a new window and click the '+' symbol.)

Mrs. Cardinal was too far away for my 5X optical zoom to get great pixels, but she's so perky I'm putting her up:

Mouse over pics for captions, and click them for larger versions.

What a precious photo of her, even at a distance, she is certainly attentive to something going on. Lovely captures for critters, except, did I hear a bark, bark...BARK! Yes, I think I did...!

Very nice Fiery Skipper - a lovely name too. Yes, the hummingbird hawk moths never stay still enough for me either.

By the way, I'm thinking the Almohad invaders took the hedgehogs along for food!

Lovely post. I'm hoping to get some Skippers in my garden soon, if the dandelions outwit the lawnmower!

Thanks, everybody!

I saw a Luna Moth tonight!

Did not get pics, but I was thinking about them. I'm in W.V. right now, here are my pics of an Imperial Moth from here back in 2012 (bottom 3 pics).

Hi, Dear friend; Both Skippers and the Clearwing are new to me♪♪♪ Your Mrs. Cardinal looks like having sweet "noticing you" eye. Wish I can see more varieties of critters in my area -;)

Sincerely from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

I love skippers with their big eyes, they seem friendlier and more approachable than most butterflies.

How lovely! I especially love the way the skipper looks against that white flower. And the bird is beautiful as well!
