Love that whirly-gig!
Monster Thistle will not be threatening Tokyo any time soon.
I was expecting artichokes or cardoons.
Are those the famous Washington cherry blossoms?
Sometimes a thistle is just a thistle. Lower your expectations.
These are famous Cacapon Mountain in West Virginia cherry blossoms, but otherwise quite similar.
You just wait, that thistle is gonna get BIG!

Thanks to the climate change that's not happening, we have BOTH cardinals and snow in Wisconsin at the middle of April. If it gets to fifty this morning, my netbook and I will be ensconced on the front porch with a cup of coffee, thoroughly enjoying retirement.
Climate change is happening, John.
Enjoy the cardinals while you can.

Stop stealing my birds.
Mom, dad, what's ice? There's a Robert Van Winkle joke in here somewhere.
You just wait, that thistle is gonna get BIG!
Not if you peel the stem and boil it for supper! Protip- tastes like their cousins, the artichokes.
Your flora is way cooler than mine. I live too far north: so many maple trees and not enough thistles and blooms.
Time for a walk... :)
