A NZ (Keruru) Wood Pigeon nearly took my head off yesterday, Thunder. they are not the best flyers and I startled it by walking past it. It reminded me of major Kong's B-52 taking off stories.

Those Pileateds are big birds, A.K.

But they're pretty adept at flying through the trees.

I rate for Kereru. Sometimes you meet them in the bush when they have been over-eating on tree-lucerne flowers, and they just sit there on the ground looking like a Sadlynaut after $mas dinner, too stuffed to move.

...and then the dog drags in a dead orb and you wish you'd never seen them.

What a lovely little cottage.

One can only struggle to imagine the inhuman atrocities that have been committed in that charming abode...

Yeah, those suckers are surprisingly large. Makes one wonder how impressive the ivory-billed woodpeckers must have been (I'm not optimistic about them still surviving).

Oh, and Merry Christmas, old chum!

Thanks, B^4. I'm sorry I never got to see an Ivory-billed Woodpecker.

We should try to not commit mistakes like that again.

In my neighborhood, I see red headed woodpeckers, red bellied woodpeckers (which also has a red head, so the red headed woodpecker would be better named as the red hooded woodpecker), downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, yellow bellied sapsuckers, and northern flickers. I've never seen the pileated woodpecker before, so thanks for that!
