the schaden freudes itself

As long-time readers of my blog may or may not know, one of my tags is the schaden freudes itself.

This is a good example of it.

I really hope it was a huge kick in their nuts.

Meh. How much of their profits result from retail banking operations? Less than 20%, I'd guess.

So losing five or ten percent of their retail checking customers will probably net out pretty close to revenue neutral.

They. Do. Not. Care.

Oh. And when the dust settles in a few months and Americans have forgotten about the $5 debit card fee, they will probably see an INCREASE in retail banking profits. Think about it. Anybody who used their debit card less than 12 times a month will now result in an increased revenue stream.

You know what I hate about mikey? He's so goddamn perky and optimistic.

Except the rest of their portfolio is complete shit so soaking the public with banking fees is their only true revenue stream. Zombie bank (no offense to real zombies).

I think Mr. Silverstein sums up my feelings.

Bank of America consumer operations, from wikiwaki:

Global Consumer and Small Business Banking (GC&SBB) is the largest division in the company, and deals primarily with consumer banking and credit card issuance. The acquisition of FleetBoston and MBNA significantly expanded its size and range of services, resulting in about 51% of the company's total revenue in 2005. It competes primarily with the retail banking arms of America's three other megabanks: Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo. The GC&SBB organization includes over 6,100 retail branches and over 18,700 ATMs across the United States.

This company would cease to exist if it weren't getting money from the Fed for almost nothing (daily Fed Funds rates here).

GOOD. Banks don't operate independent of the people that use them! Who do they think they are? Let this be a wake-up call -- and if it's not, surely the next big thing is waiting to be discovered. Maybe banks as we understand them are passe...

I was going to advocate joining a credit union & telling the banks where to put it, but the SAG-AFTRA FCU just started charging US$15.00/mo. if one doesn't keep an average monthly balance of US$250.00, above & beyond the minimum US$50.00 that must be left untouched in the savings acc't. Christ on a crutch, there is no escape!
