Ooooh cross spider. Note the fangulation on that baby!! Now that's a funnelweb!! In the NZ version the males have two notches in their front legs that are lined with chitin and therefore can't be cut. These notches are to immobilise the fangs of the female during the passion of the marital embrace.
Life in the arachnid home must be a little tense at times.
A.K., I read that a funnel-web can drive those fangs right through the uppers of someone's shoe, if said shoe isn't sturdy.

Thunder, it would certainly go through a running shoe or something like that. A lecturer I worked with reckoned they put scratches in a metal pen that a student was menacing one of them with, but I never saw it. All saw was that dropping a metal ruler on them from 1 metre, kills them.
