Sunny Day in German Village - part 1

Mouse over pics for captions, click on pics for larger views.

German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was settled by a large number of German immigrants in the mid 1800s, who at one time comprised as much as a third of the population of the entire city. (It's also just south of where I live.)

UPDATE! I've got too many pictures, so more of them have to go in this post.

Nice shots, thunder!

If all goes according to plan, The Skimmer and I are thinking of renting a place in German Village for a year or so till we figure out where to buy a house. Think that's a good plan?

We'll invite you over for dinner! I'll make cookies!

It sounds like a good plan.

There's plenty of real estate for sale around there. (Around everywhere, really.)

And yes, I'm going outside soon. This time I mean it!

That's the kind of spider that could probably chew through your neck and make your head fall on the ground dead.

Are there no living "Germans" there?

Please tell me that last picture is merely a decoration, and not the real thing?!?

Those are real. I've seen 'em gnaw through concrete just because they smelled a used band-aid inside.

Pshaw! We would call that a carpet mite down here!
Beautiful colours there, Thunder.

Thanks for that last photo, thunder! Part of me is excited to be moving. The other, much larger part of me would rather stick a fork in my eye than to start loading all this creeping crud into boxes! The thought paralyzes me with fear. And laziness.

There will be soon a new post with more photos, maybe.

And even a few hard-working insects!

I should note, BG, that a lot of my pictures were taken with the objective of avoiding the surveillance company sign. Just so you know.

Before the Germans arrived, it was a nice, quiet, French village.

Yeah, I was wondering about such things. I need the real scoop on that!

Home invasions prompted everyone to get a security company, BG.

At least that's my impression, I showed up here in 2006. That's when all that was going down.

I don't notice these things so much. As M. Bouffant has noted, you don't see many humans in my pictures. That's because they and their families hide themselves away when they see me roaming the streets.

Also: One of the pictures I took yesterday came out really nice. A Monarch butterfly.
