I've seen that hawk a number of times, hanging out on the light poles next to I-70. But he/she/it/hawk never lets me get close enough to get a shot that would help with identification.
Still, that shrouded rear rotor on the helicopter is pretty sweet. US Coast Guard flies the Dolphin chopper, and you always know when one of those is headed your way.
Maybe the bird wasn't looking and hit the chopper? Lovely hawk photo!

Red-tails are quite large, and have a broad tail feather span when flying. This one's tail seems narrower. Can't judge the size from the shot.
ReplyDeleteI though I was the only one who shot (photographed) dead birds. That hawk is bigger than any we see in the UK.
